This location-aware app gives you insider information about paintings on display at the Timken Museum of Art in San Diego, California. Open the application and step into the Timken's galleries for details about two featured paintings.
Mobile devices with this app are able to sense when they are close to selected artworks thanks to a technology dubbed “Place Sticker” by Information Services International-Dentsu LTD, Tokyo, Japan. In collaboration with the Balboa Park Online Collaborative, the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan, and the Pacific Rim Undergraduate Experience (PRIME) program at University of California, San Diego (UCSD), the Timken is the first museum in the U.S. to feature an Android-based app using this experimental technology.
This mobile application is currently in prototyping phase. Feedback is welcome!

As the other reviewers said, it didn't work. I tried to send feedback, but my email was bounced back to me. Doesn't look like they're too concerned about this working.

As another reviewer said, this app didn't work for me when I visited today. The location-aware information delivery is a great idea and I hope they continue working on it, but in this case just providing the information would have been more helpful. It never registered that I was near the paintings.

You open app and all it says "open this app when you are near these paintings" and there's two paintings pictured. I opened the app near the Rembrandt and nothing happened. The app does not specify if you need wifi or GPS on. I've tried every possible combination. Nothing works.

Loved the extra info that the app gives you about the paintings. Had it running just after I walked in, and when I was within a few feet of the paintings, the additional info came up, with a full picture. Would love to see the app expanded to include more paintings on a rotating basis, maybe 4-6 all together, or focusing on a couple. Admission to the Timken Museum is free, and with a free app, there's no reason to head over there and use this app.
