Why Freedoom?
While the game engine for everyone's favorite game from 1993 and its many spinoffs are open-sourced, most of its "assets" such as textures, sounds, and game levels are copyrighted and not legal to redistribute. The Freedoom project offers an alternative set of assets and game levels that are entirely original, open source, and can be used with most engines of said 1993 game. In addition, Freedoom is compatible with most of the vast library of fan-made "WADs" (i.e. game levels) as indexed in the idgames archive.
This app is a fork of nvllsvm's GZDoom-Android port. My idea for this fork was to bundle this app with the open source Freedoom (freedoom1.wad and freedoom2.wad) assets to publish a completely open source android game running on the GZDoom engine. I hope this "bundling" will allow it to reach a more diverse audience of users whom either don't own the OG awesome 1993 game or are averse to having to find and copy their legally-owned game resource files onto their phones.
Most custom wads can be played by:
1. placing them under Freedoom/config/wads
2. Selecting the desired wad from the main screen by pressing "Addons", "WADS", then your desired wad
3. hit "OK", then select the main game resource file to use (usually freedoom2.wad)
4. hit "Launch"
5. start a "new game" as usual, but you will go to custom level instead of the normal first level of the game
6. (alternate) some levels replace other maps than the first one in the game and may require use of a warp command or special launch argument to get to it
Full game mods should be placed in Freedoom/config/mods

Rad Port. Works perfectly with the original .WADS. Wish you could turn of the touchscreen prompts. I'm playing with a bluetooth keyboard.

Pretty much the same as Doom Touch from the amazon app store and I think even Delta Touch but it's free and it can load even more wads and pk3s than Doom Touch without crashing.

Been looking for a decent Doom clone for my phone and could never find one, then all of a sudden this appears. It is SUPERB! And you can LOOK UP AND DOWN!!!!

I find Freedoom to be one of the best doom clones to play, and it even comes with a sequel! What's also great is that you can use other WAD files to play more levels or custom doom stuff like brutal doom and even the original doom! The controlls are simple and feel great as well. The best part about this is that it's all free. One of the best and possibly an underrated app in the Play Store.

Whoa man this is awesome. I just randomly had this pop up in recommended games on the main screen of the play store. This is a special treat made for us by the developer. Seriously. I mean, I would pay for this. But it's completely free! Just perfect really. I'm playing on the Note 8 and it's smooth. Better than original doom when it comes to aiming. You can actually look up and down in this remake.

Freedoom is the best DOOM clone, that is available on Android (and possibly iOS)! I absolutely adore this game! Odd controls, however, you may configure your controls, and place the buttons where ever you feel comfortable placing your fingers. This game has so much originality being a DOOM clone. Cool weapons, mysterious locations, bad@$$ enemies, and amazing music! Definetly give this game a try! Freedoom: 8.5/10 EXO 4/5 EXO Love it!
