Each player in the strategy Chess game begins the game with 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. Each of the six piece types moves differently. The most powerful piece is the queen and the least powerful piece is the pawn. The objective is to 'checkmate' the opponent's king by placing it under an inescapable threat of capture. To this end, a player's pieces are used to attack and capture the opponent's pieces, while supporting their own. In addition to checkmate, the game can be won by voluntary resignation by the opponent, which typically occurs when too much material is lost, or if checkmate appears unavoidable. A game may also result in a draw in several ways.

It was my first try, but on the beginner level, and I actually beat a computer! Chess is a lot more fun when you win. This game will allow either one or two players, so your device can be your opponent if you wish. It's a small file to download and most certainly worth it. It's a great chess game. It doesn't bury you in ads. You will have to navigate around a couple of things with the back button when you first start it and then it will leave you alone so you can concentrate on the game. I don't know if will let me use the black pieces when playing against the computer or if it will allow linking to another player online. I guess you could always set up both sides as two player games and text or email back and forth. If you enjoy chess then you will most certainly want to download this program. Even if you aren't good at it, and I'm not, you can still not only improve your game play with practice, but win as well. There is no encouragement like winning.
