About ReKey (for rooted phones)

ReKey is a mobile application that fixes the recently-disclosed "Master Key" vulnerabilities discovered by Bluebox and other parties that affect nearly all Android devices in the wild and allow attackers to take full control of a user's mobile device.

With the ReKey mobile app, Android users are able to immediately protect their Android device without waiting on security updates from their mobile carrier. In order to patch the vulnerabilities, ReKey currently requires that the Android device be rooted.

ReKey is the result of a research collaboration between Duo Security, a cloud-based two-factor authentication and mobile security company, and Northeastern University's System Security Lab (NEU SecLab).

Followed the directions from your website and tried to confirm that it was working by installing the poc apk via adb install but got a message stating could not find path. Could you guys post a video on how to check whether the patch is working by attempting to install the poc apk?

Installed ReKey on original Samsung GTab 10.1 running rooted stock ICS. ReKey says Device Secured. However, Bluebox shows my tablet as unpatched and vulnerable. Don't know which to believe. 7/17 version behaves the same

The app installed and patched my phone fine, but the patch isn't recognised by Blue Box meaning I can't tell if the fix is actually working or not. I trust this app so I will assume it is working, but some confirmation would be nice. Anyway, thanks for creating this app, I'm sure it will save a lot of phones.

I have run the app on three rooted devices: 1)Nexus 7 w/Vanir based rom. Activated without reboot 2)Verizon GSlll, on MOAR rom, activated with single reboot, 3)Nook HD+ w/Unofficial Carbon rom. Activated after initial reboot. I can't comment on if it correctly patches the exploit, but it has not caused any issues on those devices. Thanks for the effort. Addendum 7/17: Bluebox Security app confirmed patched status of device! Thanks

This app does not declare root as a part of its manifest which means I have to tell SuperSU to not enforce permissions to get it to run.

I don't even know WTH just happened.. After installation the first thing that opens with "Warning:Not Secure" and then when you press 'ReKey My Device', within micro seconds it completes the process & displays "Device Secured" Frankly speaking I seriously doubt if it did anything... Anybody else ? Question to developers: Is this a 1 time fix or it acts like a Anti Virus which runs continuously.. After the fix, what if I uninstall the app, will my device still be protected ?

I've used this apps and it seems legit, its better to try little things than try nothing at all

You might want to add a warning about that soft reboot after your initial reboot. With the posts about bootlooping, I just about pulled the battery when I saw it happening. Curious what would happen if you already have an app with the MK exploit and then install ReKey, will the exploited app stop to function? Edit- I have had issues with connecting to wifi and 3g since installing ReKey. I have to toggle airplane mode in order to get a connection. This was not an issue before installing ReKey, and restoring a backup made the yesterday before installing ReKey restores my wifi and 3g functionality. I have uninstalled ReKey for now, hoping for some bug fixes.

It's good when a developer/company respond so quickly to the user's complaint. The update version worked without a flaw in my small screen droid. Thanks.

I thnk its working, to test and verify I tried to install the PoC.apk its says "application not intalled" so it means its blocking the app as explaines in "Learn more abt ReKey"... Thn u, hope this will secure my tablet eventhough Bluebox Securith Scanner

PROS: Great security tool for those vulnerable. CONS: Rekey is not declaring su privileges which is very unprofessional for a root app. I use CayanogenMod 10.1 now so I have no need for this app but it was great on my stock HTC One ROM (Sense 5) And to those who claim they are still vulnerable are morons. Blue box says they do not verify the rekey patch. I am a developer and have tried using the exploit to no use when rekey is working.

The "fix" also gets removed if you uninstall app. I fixed the master key issue with app of same name by Tungstwenty. Even after uninstalling Xposed Framework & MasterKey, Bluebox & SRT apps say I am protected. All other apps including widgets working fine!
