About Facewatch ID

*CURRENTLY ONLY SUPPORTED IN THE UK WITH THE FOLLOWING POLICE FORCES: METROPOLITAN POLICE, SURREY, WEST MIDLANDS, BRITISH TRANSPORT POLICE, THAMES VALLEY, NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, HAMPSHIRE, DORSET, HUMBERSIDE, CITY OF LONDON POLICE AND DURHAM.

Facewatch ID is a free application allowing members of the public in the UK to confidentially identify images issued by the police.

Use your location or enter a postcode, to view persons of interest to the Police, which may be suspected criminals or witnesses to a crime. Remember it is an offence to give false evidence to the Police.

If you identify any of the images the application allows you to enter details that are known, including name and address. The information is then sent directly, and confidentially, to the UK police. Facewatch has been provided with the images by the Police Forces shown on the image ID page and is providing this service on behalf of those Forces.

What are users saying about Facewatch ID

U70%
by U####:

The search summary states it shows those wanted within a mile of the specified postcode but the Returned results are from over 50 miles away.

U70%
by U####:

I put in my postcode and it comes up saying, faces within 5 miles of where you live... it then comes up with about 20 pics all from the same area 75miles away. Is there only one police force that uses this site, so they the only ones showing up or is the map screwed up..

F70%
by F####:

Would be nice if we got suspects in the actual search area I put in instead of ones over 20 miles away......useless app

M70%
by M####:

Yeah, its all good with the possibility of you ending up as a witness for the prosecution. Then you get murdered. No thanks.

U70%
by U####:

Not very accurate is it , after typing in my postcode it keeps showing me stuff in Hampshire all the time an asking me to ID em waste of time!!

P70%
by P####:

good idea but am in leeds and showing hertfordshire.

U70%
by U####:

Absolute rubbish

U70%
by U####:

The biggest criminals are the company responsible for releasing this. Buggy and clearly not QA'd. Hurried and it shows. I'm an App developer myself and would be ashamed if I had to admit I had written this. Shabby.

U70%
by U####:

Yet to see one suspect on this app. Tried many postcodes. This is a great idea if they actualy uploaded profiles. Waste of space on my phone

U70%
by U####:

95% of these images are indistinguishable. I feel utterly sorry for anyone who is wrongly identified from these mosaics. I saw 30 images which could easily be 2pac, and that's just within a mile of me.

U70%
by U####:

Either get bad gateway or white screen. Brilliant idea but unable to get it to open. Hope the tax payers didn't pay for such a poor site.

E70%
by E####:

I get a blank white screen after accepting the initial disclaimer. Doesn't work on my Galaxy S2

N70%
by N####:

Nice idea. Should have been done ages ago. Unfortunately cannot scroll through photos. Neither does the IDENTIFY button work. Fix asap.

M70%
by M####:

Like trying to identify a polar bear in a snow storm. Wouldn't be able to identify myself with the quality of these pictures.

K70%
by K####:

I've just downloaded this app recommended by this morning, and was trying to use it but all it keeps coming up with is bad gateway. I have a HTC sensation xl.

I70%

seems they have not loaded any information in Midlands. Keep up to date or remove application.

U70%

When opening app just says bad gateway?? Shame as app sounds like a great idea!

C70%
by C####:

Good idea, but app needs more work. Unable to get past first image

Q70%
by Q####:

It'd be good if we could zoom in to the faces, also the postcode keeps reverting to one, but it's in the right town so I guess that's not problematic.

T70%
by T####:

handy to see if you spot anyone you know and get them there karma they deserve

Buttons do nothing, image quality so poor it could be anyone, if my taxes funded this junk app I'm looking for a refund.

R70%

Good idea but I either get bad gateway or a white screen whenever I accept the agreement.

B70%

Is the same reason I watch Crimewatch; to see if I recognise any mug shots!

Guys read the bloody description! It says only London and rest of UK throughout 2012

R70%
by R####:

I can't believe there's no criminals in Glasgow! Trying various post codes throughout the country including Manchester! I can't help noticing that the only ones that produce any results are in London. Perhaps it's just a trial by the Met to see if it takes off. I for one hope it does.

D70%
by D####:

Whoever wrote this app knows nothing about app UX, no "wait" info during image changes, no failure to connect info - you can sit on one image pressing forward or back and NOTHING happens, so you have zero idea if it's getting the next one, failed to connect or has just crashed - the met should ask for their money back, because it feels like it was built by some kid in his bedroom!

S70%
by S####:

Extremely buggy, frustrating ui and keeps freezing on the smart water adverts. You want the public to help, so why force adverts on us? Uninstalling

R70%
by R####:

Won't work for me getting 'Bad Gateway' message no good.....

R70%
by R####:

Loaded this after seeing a piece on TV where it was used. Sadly after looking at the two images for the area chosen the App locked up and will now not take instruction. Why are some folk assuming that this is a Police created App? Do some research guys before slagging them off.

Wish the pictures were better quality. Still, it's good to try to do one's part.
