Louis-Isaac Le Maistre de Sacy (1613-1684) fut un prêtre catholique, théologien et traducteur de la Bible. Il est connu par sa traduction de la Bible: «Bible de Port-Royal», la Bible la plus répandue au XVIIIe siècle. Ce fut la première traduction de la Bible en français accessible au grand public qui ne parlait pas le latin.

La traduction de la Vulgate a été commencé par le frère de Louis-Isaac, Antoine Le Maistre, qui traduit les quatre évangiles et l’Apocalypse.

Après la mort de son frère, Louis Isaac entreprend sa révision et rédige et complète la traduction du Nouveau Testament.

Cette édition s’appellera «Nouveau Testament de Mons» car elle est publiée à Mons en 1667. Ce Nouveau Testament connaît un succès exceptionnel pour l’époque et il est réimprimé plusieurs fois.

Plus tard, Sacy s’attaque à la traduction de l’Ancien Testament et sa Bible complète fut publiée entre 1672 et 1693. Elle est considérée une chef-d’œuvre de la littérature classique française.

Isaac Louis Le Maistre de Sacy (1613-1684) was a Catholic priest, theologian and Bible translator. He is known by his translation of the Bible: "Port Royal Bible," the most widespread in the eighteenth century Bible. This was the first Bible translation in French available to the public who did not speak Latin.

The translation of the Vulgate was started by the brother of Louis Isaac, Antoine Le Maistre, who translated the four Gospels and the Apocalypse.

After the death of his brother Louis Isaac began its review and prepare and complete translation of the New Testament.

This edition will be called "New Testament of Mons' because it is published in Mons in 1667. The New Testament was an outstanding success for the time and it is reprinted several times.

Later Sacy attacks the translation of the Old Testament and the complete Bible was published between 1672 and 1693. It is considered a masterpiece of French classical literature.
