Johnny on the Spot is the Surfer's Personal, Private Diary
As a surfer, you'll know there's nothing quite like the joy of surfing your favourite spot with no one else around. Our goal is to help you have more of these experiences.
Johnny on the Spot does this in three ways:
1 - At a glance 'current conditions' check at all your favourite surf breaks.
2 - Easy, detailed comparison between current surf conditions at your favourite spots and diary entries recorded in the app.
3 - Share your surf diary entries in a private group with your surfing buddies.
Before we go on. It's important to say right now that Johnny on the Spot is 100% Private. We're surfers too. So we respect the importance of keeping some breaks quiet. Our promise to you is that we will never share the surf spots and locations that you record with the app with anyone else.
OK - Here's How it Works:
Take a picture of the waves and live swell, wind and tide data is saved along with the image.
Rate the surf conditions from one to five stars. Add in your personal assessment of the wave size at the beach and make comments to help you remember any other details about your surf session.
Save the image to an individual surf spot gallery. You can have as many galleries as you want - one for every break you like to surf.
When you open the app again the Home Screen takes you to a quick, at-a-glance conditions check at all the surf spots you've saved.
To see how these conditions compare to your past surf sessions, open the spot galleries. Alongside your saved data and ratings, you'll see the current surf conditions at the beach. This makes it easy to make decisions about where and when you want to surf. Never miss a surf session at your favourite secret spot again!
You can also share your photos with a select group of your surf buddies. Create your own groups to help your friends score better waves too.
Your favourite surf spots are out of phone signal? Don't worry.
Take the picture with Johnny on the Spot as normal. When you are back in signal the app will update your diary entry with the surf conditions at the time of the photo. (We were pretty happy when we cracked this one)
A quick word on why we charge:
We understand that many apps are free. But they’re often free for 2 reasons.
One. They’ll advertise to you. Or two. They’ll sell your data.
Advertising just doesn’t sit right with us. And selling your data? Not a chance. Our promise to you is that we’ll never share the surf spots you save to JOTS with anyone else.
But because we refuse to do that, we do have to place a small charge on each app we sell in order to make our business viable.
We hope that’s OK. But more than that, we hope that JOTS helps you enjoy more of one of surfing’s best experiences: a favourite wave to yourself with no one else around.
50p from every app sold will be donated to the environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage.
We'll also put anything we make into building features to make Johnny on the Spot even better. Here are a few things we have in the pipeline. No pun intended.
