About Display Brightness for Wear

Notice: if the brightness does not change on your watch, restart the watch. Also, make sure to check the brightness by using the system settings and not a 3rd party app (like Wear Mini Launcher's settings), some 3rd party apps don't properly read the current brightness and update themselves when it changes.

Uses the coarse location to calculate sunrise and sunset times, as well as the Google Play Services activity detection API to automatically set the display brightness on your Android Wear.

This is only necessary for watches that DON'T have an ambient light sensor. This is not needed for the Moto 360, but can be used with it if the watch brightness setting is on manual mode. If the watch is on auto, this app will not change the value (useful if you have multiple Android Wear devices.)

If it's night time, the brightness will always be set to the lowest.

If it's day time, it will determine the brightness, between medium and high, based on the current user activity. Feel free to change the brightness levels depending on your activities.

By using the activity detection, we are making assumptions to determine whether the user is indoors, or outdoors, and then setting the display brightness on the watch based on that.

For battery saving purposes, there may be a delay between each detection.

This app is incredibly simple and allows me to actually see my wash screen in daylight. For some reason, my Asus Zenwatch constantly readjusts to low brightness leaving me unable to view the screen anywhere but indoors. This app keeps the brightness high when is the text that I am driving walking etc. The activity detection is very accurate in my experience. can set it anywhere from low to high depending on what you are doing and it will seamlessly change the brightness settings.

by X####:

Works well at detecting when I'm driving. A life saver for setting the watch bright enough to actually read while out and then drop it back down while at work. The gear live lacks any light sensor so this is almost a required app for that device. It's pretty accurate about finding sunrise/set time for wherever your phone is on the globe, set different levels for day/night to each activity. Profiles that are geofenced instead of activity based as well would be a welcome update.

An option to work with watches with an "auto" mode would be nice. For example, set the brightness to adjust automatically during the day, then switch to lowest at night. My Moto 360v1is annoyingly bright when it happens to come on while I'm driving at night, even when it's set to auto brightness.

Does not seem to work with Huawei watch. Seems to set random brightness values without any rhyme or reason. Think this could be a good app if it had some simplified settings. Not sure how many users need different brightness levels for biking vs driving. Would be better if user could manually set brightness by hours/time (ie brightness level 1 from 9pm to 6am).

U70%
by U####:

Would be nice to have some control over when daytime/nighttime begins

Doesn't work on my GWR. Edit: Hasn't been updated in 6 months despite it not working.

I wish it was a bit more configurable or allowed for tie in with Tasker. I've been using this app on Huawei Watch and I really like it. I'm hoping there will be additional development and new features moving forward.

U70%
by U####:

Would be nice to have tasker integration or at least location/wifi adjust so to better determine outside brightness.

There's no errors with my LG Urbane, but it just don't work. The brightness is constantly set to 1.

U70%
by U####:

Would be nice if you could work on some more functionality like WiFi connection rules.

I'm glad someone did this, I've been wishing for a time-based automatic brightness adjustment for my G Watch since day one. However, I think there can be improvements made to it. As it is now, there is absolutely no indication that the app is active or doing anything and there are no settings or variables for users to configure. I think that there should be settings (either on watch of phone) where people can manually specify what brightness they want at what hours, as well as an option to enable/disable

Like many others, I have re-started the watch many times, and still this app does not change the brightness according to the settings at all..

Good idea but doesn't work on G Watch R even after restart.

Happily giving 4 stars because at least now there's a visible change in the watch brightness

M70%

Great idea. Crap implementation. It comes with a list of activities. Want to add your own? Too bad. Want to delete one? To bad. You get what's on the list. The description mentions using your coarse location for sunrise/sunset. There is no way to do this. The menu button does nothing. Long press brings up the brightness for the pre defined list. Uninstalled.

Seems to work well on its own bit when using a launcher with a brightness shortcut it didn't seem to work

With the "Always on" setting my ambient brightness setting is noticeable brighter than the normal mode. It should always be less. If this is added in the settings then this app gets 5 stars!

I have restarted the watch after installing, and my brightness setting never changes from 1. I still have to adjust the brightness setting manually.

I have noticed a lot of reviews complaining that the app doesn't do anything... the app description says that you must restart your phone if it doesn't work. I am loving this app.

I ran this for a few days, but doesn't seem to do anything. Granted, I use Lux to control brightness, not sure if that's an issue.

R70%
by R####:

I don't want to give thus 1 star as it's free but it makes the watch battery last about 7 hours instead of the usual 20 I get

Whenever I check brightness seems to be at 4. Even at midnight.

Now just needs some customisation options. For example a global on/off setting (for when user wants manual control again), and custom brightness levels per "state" (since each person has different preferences). Lots of potential here though.

Recommend more ways to configure brightness. Time of day for example you know you are at work 8AM - 4Pm, and you know what brightness would be ideal at work. Mon-Fri 8am - 4pm brightness = 3 Excellent though, and it is so far free, can not complain

U70%
by U####:

I'm not convinced this is actually doing anything... Brightness always at the same level, day or night, driving, not driving.....

U70%

Set brightness to 50% for the whole day, doesn't change after that. No indication that it is runs at all.

But need some custom fine tuning - for example at home at day time 3 is to light for me and I would like to be able to change it to 2.
