About Fade: fall detector

Fade is a mobile application designed and developed by ITER, S.A. able to detect falls using the information collected by some of your mobile sensors such as the accelerometer. Fade has been designed for people might be under risks of falling in an isolated environment without any supervision. This makes the application ideal for bikers, motorcyclist, working at heights, hikers or elders.

Fade can be configured to issue an alert message to a predefined contact after a fall detection, reporting the time and place where the accident occurred, using the device's geolocation tools. This information, which may be sent to the selected contact via SMS and email, can be vital in emergencies as indicated for numerous studies by the leading authorities in the field of emergency services. Fade also allows for a phone call to that contact with automatic activation of the device's speaker.

Fade has been tested in Pabellón Municipal de Deportes Miguel A. Díaz Molina, Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife with Master Saha C. Afonso, International Coach of Kung Fu with over 20 years of experience. With the knowledge of the Master Saha on different falling techniques and his experience as a stunt specialist, a complete and effective application has been produced. The following video summarizes the testing process that the application was subject to with the collaboration of Master Saha.

Fade is an application being currenly tested. Although it has been thoroughly tested, a 100% success rate in detecting falls or accidents is not guaranteed. ITER S.A. will not take responsibility on any bad use of the application by the user.

Practically speaking this failed even basic tests. Did NOT detect falls when device was locked (which it pretty much always would be!). Took two minutes for a sms from my phone back to my own phone to come through. Release notes mention email services moved to an internal server of authors. Why would you want that?! Send email from configured provider on phone. If you trust the health and life of your relative to some free email server of unknown reliability and no SLA you can literally get someone killed..

Painfully dated, awkward and limited interface. Hasn't been updated in years and it shows. Not senior-friendly in the least.

E70%
by E####:

So far ok. Just can't tell it I am ok. Have to kill the app. Also no way to control detect tone sound level. I will give it a 5 when these are corrected. I am disabled and hard of hearing.

Works as described, this app is also useful to alerting you should your phone be dropped without your being aware. The only issue that I have is the "The I'm OK" button not working for me. This is easy enough to overcome by closing and reopening the app.

Won't work says can't detect fall due to Display setting horizontal xyz. I go to where it directs me, but nothing is there for horizontal. So the first setting isn't configured. Why is this? What am I missing?

R70%
by R####:

Am I missing something? In the description doesn't it say it will give a location of the person who has fallen, I can't see this, not even on the email. Also it says it will automatically turn on the loud speaker of the fallen phone but it doesn't seem to do this either. It would be perfect if it would do these 2 things. Overall a good app though.

Well all i can say is every time iv had a fall since i installed this it has actually sent a text to my carer!!! So it does work!!!

I like this app. It's been one of the best out of the fall detectors I've tried. I wish it would allow you to have multiple contacts you could add. I wish it would also allow you to change the priority of which method it tries to contact first. I would like to receive a text/email first so I know where the location is.

Broke my Samsung Galaxy S4 mini trying to get this to work. From smacking it on my hand, the dining room table to throwing it across the room. Graph shows movement, but no call or sms. Won't be installing on my new phone. Will look for a program that works.

Either overly sensitive or not sensitive enough. Tried it on both my S3 and my S5. After a few hours of experimenting I'm afraid I have to uninstall from both.

It has good potential. But it has few drawbacks that makes it not ready for emergency. At least not for elderly. 1. It does not restart on system restart. 2. It stops detecting after one detection. 3. It send message to only one person.

I have a spinal injury and this so far as I've tested works. I feel safer trying to walk without an assistant

It sends a text correctly and attempts the phone call, but a robo-female voice says "Could not complete your call. Please try again" This is on an Android/Google Nexus 5.

I love the app.. but I can't really use it yet. I want to use it for my grandmother, but she does not really know how a smartphone works and she forgets/does not know how to startup this app and activate it. I need this app to have a option to auto start when the smartphone starts up and to activate/arm itself automaticly. My grandmother should only need know how to charge it and how to turn the smartphone on. Who can I contact about this?

However, using Samsung Galaxy Note 3 there is a couple of issues. False activations trying to get phone out of bags pockets etc is a pain. Can you get this to work with galaxy gear watch. Then even whilst phone is charging or drug induced somnambulance is covered?

T70%
by T####:

You need the ability to set the recovery sensitivity, I only have to rock my phone slightly to deactivate it and being a motorcyclist this could easily be falsely disabled by writhing in pain.
