Identificação
Castanho e algo incaracterístico, o rouxinol-comum não é uma ave muito fácil de identificar visualmente. A
longa cauda arruivada, visível sobretudo em voo, contrasta com os tons acastanhados do dorso. É
sobretudo pelo canto que o rouxinol-comum se faz notar e pode ser identificado. Este canto é muito variado,
contendo diferentes sequências de notas. Uma das mais características é o “tu-tu-tu-tu-tu” em crescendo.

Abundância e calendário
O rouxinol-comum é bastante frequente em Portugal, mas a sua abundância apresenta com importantes
variações a nível regional. Assim, no litoral norte e centro é escasso, mas no interior norte e centro é muito
abundante, tal como no litoral sul e em certas zonas do Algarve.

Esta espécie esconde-se geralmente no meio de vegetação densa
e raramente pousa à vista. No norte frequenta todo o tipo de
matagais, ao passo que no Alentejo ocorre principalmente ao longo
de rios e ribeiras, onde a vegetação é mais densa. O
rouxinol-comum é estival, fazendo ouvir o seu canto a partir de
finais de Março ou princípios de Abril. Em Junho começa a calar-se
e em Agosto abala rumo a África.
