Ia adalah pria kelahiran Pulau Rote, Nusa Tenggara Timur tahun 1958. Sejak kecil ia tinggal dan besar di Jakarta.
Ia sangat berperan dalam mencetak penyanti-penyanyi yang kemudian namanya melejit dengan membawakan lagu-lagu ciptaannya.

Obbie dipilih JK untuk menjadi penulis lagu bersama Panca, Maxi Mamiri, Wahyu OS dan JK sendiri serta Deddy Dores.
