The story behind this poncho begins months ago when my friend Ioana from Moeke Yarns informs me there will be a special Spring 2015 collection of the Moeke Yarns Elena yarn, holding different colours created with natural dyes. Of course she immediately got my attention and I got all excited. My excitement was rewarded with the most beautiful colours and of course I was delighted to be given the chance to work up a project with them.

Ioana and I agreed it had to be a quick and simple project, not too large and definitely show casing most of the colours. Since I am expecting a baby girl and the Elena yarn is very suitable for outer wear, the poncho came to mind. I made one for kids and ladies last year, but a baby version would of course be needed soon as well. The poncho baby crochet for babies takes 5 mini skeins in the adorable colours Mulberry, Coral, Brick Red, Latte and Fern. Don’t those names speak to your imagination immediately? I think in the poncho they pop up beautifully in the Natural colour of Elena.

Due to the fact this poncho is made of wool, it is probably more of a Fall-Winter piece rather than a Summer piece. But for me, even though we are approaching Summer, it means I am very well prepared once Fall kicks in and I’d rather have this piece waiting for my girl to wear it, instead of the other way around. You hear those stories right, of a baby putting your life upside down, no more time to yourself… Just in case those stories happen to be true once she’s born, the poncho is already done.
