About WebMD Pain Coach

WebMD Pain Coach™ offers a holistic approach to balancing lifestyle with chronic pain conditions to help inspire a better day. WebMD’s new app is a mobile companion to help you through daily health and wellness choices so you can better manage your chronic pain. Enjoy a personalized experience as physician-reviewed tips related to your specific condition are delivered daily to you. WebMD Pain Coach™ puts you in control of your lifestyle choices so you can review personal patterns to understand triggers, set goals, and easily share progress with your physician.

588 Tips – 293 Articles – 86 Goals – 25 Videos – 21 Slideshows – 5 Quizzes

WebMD Pain Coach™ is specially designed and customized for people with the following chronic pain conditions:
✓ Back pain
✓ Neck pain
✓ Nerve pain
✓ Fibromyalgia
✓ Migraine
✓ Osteoarthritis
✓ Rheumatoid arthritis

If your chronic pain condition is not listed above, you can still use the app to track pain, set goals, and get pain management tips, articles, slideshows and videos.

When you first download and use WebMD Pain Coach™, you are asked to select your chronic pain condition(s), as well as symptoms, triggers and treatments that apply to your condition(s). If privacy is important, the option to set a four digit PIN will keep your information secure. WebMD’s drug look-up allows you to search and select over-the-counter and prescribed medications, and record the dosage of each drug selected.

WebMD Pain Coach™ is organized into four easy-to-use sections:
✓ JOURNAL
The Journal section allows you to quickly and easily record your day. A separate Journal screen exists for each day. Once entries are created for multiple days, flip back to see your pain history. Turn your phone sideways to generate your Pain Coach™ Report: a historical chart that plots your general well-being against your pain levels while listing your most common symptoms, triggers and treatments. Tap on a day to view a snapshot of your pain history and export your Pain Coach™ Report to PDF and email it to yourself or your physician.
♦ Record how you generally feel each day by sliding the Pain Coach™ ‘Well Being Belt.’
♦ Log a pain entry to track details surrounding pain: pain level from 1-10, symptoms, triggers, treatments and notes.
♦ Reminder to log a pain entry by receiving a Pain Coach™ notification once a day.
♦ View a new Daily Tip that is personalized to your condition(s), triggers and treatments.
♦ If you set goals to better manage pain, tap ‘Today’s Goals’ to check off achieved goals.

✓ Goals
The Goals section allows you to browse and select physician-approved goals from five lifestyle categories related to your pain condition(s): Food, Rest, Exercise, Mood, and Treatments. You can also create your own goals. Each related tip can be viewed before selecting a goal. The goal duration can be set from one day to one year.
♦ The green ribbon at the top of the Goals screen indicates the percent completion rate for active goals.
♦ Once a goal is selected, tap ‘My Goals’ to view Goal Activity for active and completed goals.
♦ If you have more than one chronic pain condition, the goal that is suggested for a specific condition is indicated.

✓ Library
The Library section contains all of the critical, physician-approved content relevant to your condition(s) and pain management. The Library contains hundreds of articles, videos, slideshows and quizzes. All articles are available for offline reading.
♦ Library content contains links to WebMD’s mobile website.
♦ The Library is searchable.
♦ Share all Library content via email, Facebook or Twitter.

✓ Tips
The Tips section features hundreds of ‘bite-sized’ tips that are matched with goals and organized into the same five lifestyle categories: Food, Rest, Exercise, Mood and Treatments. Each goal has between 3-10 supporting tips.
♦ Search for a specific tip.
♦ After reading a tip, view the goal related to the tip, or view related Library articles.

I installed & read the Privacy Policy, because of all the permissions. Apparently, to access all the tools, you must register & provide all personal info-including location. Contacted WebMD using provided phone # to verify this, & had to leave a message. Haven't recv'd a response & not comfortable giving this info to third parties. I'm uninstalling. :( App sounds fantastic, but privacy is important. I'm willing to pay for it, but would require weather info to be included as well.

Y70%
by Y####:

Love the flexibility, but I'm only able to use the Journal tab because the Goals, Library, Tips and Settings screens go black and freeze and I have to shut down and restart the program. I was forced to uninstall and obtain an app that is much more comprehensive and customizable. The developers of the app I chose are responsive to issues/questions, which I note WebMD clearly doesn't care to do.

E70%
by E####:

I like the ease of use, comprehensiveness and that I can add custom goals. Have not seen any ads yet. I don't see an option to track severity and location of pain by body regions on a body diagram. I also would like to see a cbt thought record form included to manage negative pain thinking.

Y70%
by Y####:

I find it EXTREMELY IRRITATING that a part-time developer creating apps in spare time can have data backup in their apps, yet HUGE WEBMD with ALL their resources say it's beyond their capability!TRANSLATION: THEY SIMPLY DON'T WANT TO BE BOTHERED. I was told by them it was up to me to figure out how to back up their app's data, that they couldn't be expected to provide backup for everyone. WITHOUT ROOT DATA BACKUP ISN'T POSSIBLE WEBMD..

P70%
by P####:

Very detailed and helpful. Most comprehensive and relevant I've found. Only tiny issue is that the overall daily rating is very touchy and can accidentally be changed when reviewing past days. Would be great if you could export all data. Great job on a brilliant app!

V70%
by V####:

Very informative and encouraging. Considered deleting because of space(40 units). I don't log my info everyday, but I love the tips and advice. You can't get the same tips thru regular web md. I've tried!

Y70%
by Y####:

Even though I have the same account my info won't transfer from one device to the other. It's like having two separate diaries, really annoying. Fix it and I'll give 5 stars.

Z70%
by Z####:

I love the pain coach app. With my illness, I have a lot of memory problems. I can make notes and walk out with out saying "shoot, I forgot to ask him this or that"! Plus its a good tool for your doctor to look at!

Y70%
by Y####:

It says a connection is required to set up an account, but I'm on my home WiFi that works with everything else. I AM connected. It's a bummer, I really wanted to try this app! I think my dr doesn't believe my pain is an issue and wanted to show him a log. I figured this app would be convenient for that purpose.

by L####:

I have had this a few days now, and love it. It really helps tracking sleep pattern, pain, triggers, and other patterns. I love how it has goals built in and gives tips for each. There is a lot of great information. Very impressed with this app so far.

M70%
by M####:

I stopped using this app for a while. Tried to sign in today and it wouldn't accept my password. Hit "forgot your password?", which redirected me to the sign in box again. And again. Won't let me create a new account with my email. It will be easier to create my own spreadsheet for pain and symptoms. Uninstalled.

H70%
by H####:

Initially I was very pleased with the pain tracking detail ability... But....I wasted so much time and was disappointed: when I signed out of the app and signed back in, all of the data I had entered was gone. All of the additional/personalized symptoms, triggers and treatments was gone as well. Maybe I did something wrong. I uninstalled. When that's fixed, I'd definitely download again.

G70%
by G####:

Downloaded okay but when signing up section is completed and submitted it comes up with a Internet connection error. Tried turning wifi on and off, reset modern, and tried on 3g connection but still no joy. Some help would be appreciated.

When I visit my doctors, all information is available quickly threw this app. Recently I was taken to the ER. Didn't feel well at all. Indeed after opening the application the nurse had all information she pretty much needed. THANKS love it

Y70%
by Y####:

I have endometriosis and although this app helps, it would help more if I could add a specific pattern for my illness. Other conditions/notes, such as the weather, the energy level, menstrual flux and food/sleep/ bowel movement would help a lot.

I think it very good lids of information tell how to deal with back pain thers probley a lot more I just was looking at at the moment try it and sèè wwhat you think it sassy to read no big Davey words all plain and simple

Worked ok. Reminders didn't work. If you went back a week it would take you back to today after you filled out one date. Once you DL it all info was lost. & now I just signed out and when I went to sign back in all my data was gone! Sucks having months worth of info gone. Hate this app!

R70%
by R####:

I had no problems at first, then when I went to open it, it would only go to the pain chart that opens when you turn the device horizontally. Could not get the app to leave that page. I am very disappointed as this application seemed to be the best I have tried. It would be 5 stars if not for this problem. Admin, please help!!!!!

I've agreed to terms and watched the little video. I've filled out my info. .twice!! I continue to get a notice staying I have to be connected. I'm on strong WiFi. That didn't help. Turned it off. Nothing! Would love to at least try the stupid app. I'm newly diagnosed with fibro and am trying to be proactive in my own care

J70%

It is great as far as it goes, I'd like to see the goals have fill in spaces, for examples place to fill in the temperature on track weather. Pain chart for tracking levels is very useful. Definitely a keeper.

I suffer from chronic pain so downloaded this to my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, and hard time getting keyboard to come up to type, and on the Goalssection, the screen would freeze with every choice, to point I had to turn screen off and back on again many times to keep progressing forward. I did not even finish selecting goals I got so frustrated.

R70%
by R####:

I cannot exit the report screen. Great potential. I will reinstall and updte the review. UPDATE: Still goes to the report graph, and nowhere else. Dropped rating from 3 stars to 1 star. Reluctantly uninstalling, as it looked good.

does not work with marshmallow I am so upset. I used to love this app and have recommended it to numerous patients. Now that I have upgraded to the new android os I can enter the data but it will not save it.Have uninstalled and re-installed and no better. Have even written to them and have received no reply.Very disappointed. It was so effective in helping me and now it is useless.

I've downloaded...put in location of pains, triggers & meds. ONLY to have the pain coach report/pain level page that won't let me choose a level. No options to go to other pages like journal, goals, etc. other than "view pain levels". What a head ACHE!!

D70%
by D####:

This helps me and my pain I use a fentanyl patch but I don't want to go any higher. So I try to just manage my pain and deal with it. I'm just starting out on your app anything I get from Web MD is always good. So bear with me and I will give you some results and a different rating if it's possible that anything you advise works. So I will try this out because I'm in pain right now. I know I should be out there walking or doing the hobby I have is rockhounding. But it's been raining raining raining lightnin

U70%
by U####:

It's a great app my only problem is when your pain is higher than a 5 you really don't feel like typing in a journal. There's days when I've missed cause the pain was just too dang bad to touch my phone. It's a good idea but there needs to be a voice option for people that have problems with their arms/hands.

M70%
by M####:

Why do I need to log in to track my own symptoms? And why won't it allow me to log in? Tragically flawed... Is this even real? I'm in horrifying pain I shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to log my symptoms. Web MD is usually somewhat helpful this is simply exacerbating my misery by causing extreme frustration. Use manage my pain app instead it's much much much better than this bloated Piece of crap.

R70%
by R####:

This app has been helpful in tracking my really bad days. However, the notifications don't always work, so I have trouble remembering to track my better days. The overall day rating slider is pretty sensitive, and it's very easy to accidentally change it while scrolling through the days. I would love a way to export all my data so that I can show it to my doctors and maybe more graphs of pain number and such. Also, it would be cool if it could link to my online WebMD account and was viewable online.

N70%
by N####:

Android has great functionality, as well as high quality design standards. App looks and functions like it belongs on an iPhone 4. But, it's free, and the best free one for this purpose. Everyone else takes advantage of your pain to sell their apps. WebMD uses ads, which aren't bothersome...especially when you also get the wide array of knowledge that no one else brings to their app. That's really what sets WebMD apart. Now if they just made an actual android app WITH working notifications, it'd be 4 stars?

J70%

An extremely helpful tool; not just for myself, but for my doctor as well. UPDATE : The more I use this app the more incredibly IMPRESSED I am!!! I have used and tested a great many such apps and NEVER have I experienced any other app that even approaches the fully comprehensive, in depth and yet so incredibly simple and user-friendly approach to putting my medical life down in black and white. Truly, I just can't say enough wonderful things about this app -OR- how much it is already helping my doctor + I.

R70%
by R####:

The app is easy to use and tracks fine. I like that you can add your own treatments, symptoms or triggers that are not on the standard list. However, the pain coach report does not always work on my phone. the graph will show the overall rating but it will not show the pain levels. Also, It would be helpfull if I could track "Activity" as well as pain leves, then have the activity added into the chart by name or level (walking to mailbox might be activity level 1 and taking an excercise class would be level 10, just like the pain is tracked). that way when I look at the graph I can draw conclusioins such as "pain is always high after riding in the car" or "pain is generally better the day after pool excercises".

Great for journaling and tracking your daily progress and setbacks. Great for doctor visits and helps you learn about your condition better by viewing your charts and how certain things affect you on a day to day basis. Great app!!

R70%
by R####:

Helps me focus on my meds and relieves my anxiety about keeping track of it all. I wonder if there would be a way to enter the instructions for each specific med such as: Take with food, Avoid coffee, spicy dishes & alcohol. And with a place to enter side effects; WOW! This would make it a definite 5☆+++

I haven't, as such, been formally diagnosed with Chronic pain. However, I have had pain for years now, so I was willing to give it a go. I'm VERY glad I did, as it is both extremely useful, and very informative. Also, it's been given over 700 5 star reviews. I'm one of those reviews. This app is so helpful. Update - Have started recommending it to friends!

R70%

I think it's an awesome tool. Helps me track my pain levels and report to my doctors. Would also be great if there was a sync option. Bought a new phone and have to start over. All the information from other phone is lost.

I have just started using this app. and I can already see where it will be helpful, but with a little more development it would be great. The first thing that needs to be improved is the list of different diagnosis. I have a fairly common autoimmune disorder that is know for causing severe joint pain and it isn't listed. In fact, very few things are. I hope this changes soon and

It works rather well for me. Been using about 6 months now. It REALLY needs the ability to export full history to pdf, Not limited to a week or whatever it is
