About Marine Navigator Lite

Marine Navigator Lite is an offline navigator using raster navigational charts (RNC's) to plot your position in real time. This way you can navigate with true copies of official paper charts on your mobile device. This lite version of the Marine Navigator provides the following basic navigation functions:
* real time positioning (instantly shows vessel's position and course on the chart)
* display of navigational data (position, speed over ground, course over ground)
* distance and bearing calculation
Marine Navigator Lite doesn't come with pre-installed nautical charts. Instead it is able to import BSB/KAP raster navigational charts (see menu->help for instructions). RNC's are available for free at various internet sites:
*http://www.charts.noaa.gov/RNCs/RNCs.shtml (Suite of NOAA nautical charts that covers the coastal waters of the U.S. and its territories)
* http://www.mar.mil.br/dhn/chm/box-cartas-raster/raster_disponiveis.html (Suite of CHM nautical charts that covers the coastal waters of Brazil and its major rivers)
* http://www.linz.govt.nz/hydro/charts/digital-charts/nzmariner (NZMariner is the product name of New Zealand's Official RNC folio.)
* http://www.openseamap.org (Openseamap charts are based on Openstreetmap data enriched with additional nautical information. The charts cover selected european coastal waters).
If you like Marine Navigator Lite and are looking for enhanced navigational functions check out the full version of MARINE NAVIGATOR.

I have downloaded a number of raster charts, but I am unable to import them. Clicking the import button causes the app to crash on my oneplus one.

The free version isn't feature rich, but it works as advertised.

Such a simple and great app. no need for $3,000 chart plotters. Used every day on my boat. Took a minute to figure out how to download and install correct charts but after that never an issue.

Very good aplication. Have a different app for lap top that will only do GPS via RS-232. My lap top has No serial ports. Would this app work on Windows computer with external GPS Blue Tooth input?? Very good Android app as it is. Very helpful working on 55 ton passenger tour boat.

It rocks. Gotta move boat in 2 days and no longer have I phone (bye bye Apple) and lost free nav app. This one rocks once you get the chart downloader learning curve down. It does what you need it to do with no monkey business. I am going to buy the paid version as a thank you. This app is great.

With limited core memory it is important to be able to load data / charts onto the SD memory card. I hope, in the future, this app will accommodate SD memory.

No menu buttons makes the app totally useless. There are too many different phones out there, don't depend on hard buttons!

D70%
by D####:

No menu buttons! Can't import maps, so cannot get started..... Basic function missing. Update (05-Jul-16): still no button, cannot access menu/charts - was tempted to download full version since would like to use visitmyharbour but appears cannot.

Q70%
by Q####:

App is great - does everything I want, but chart coverage with free charts in the UK is not so good. I'd really like to see Raster chart support for geo-referenced files (DIR and png files), then I could use the same charts as SeaClear uses on my PC.

Have to enable the Assistant Menu to get to the menu button on Samsung Galaxy S7. Inconvenient having to load new charts and figure out which chart you need next.

I'm using it on my android and is an awesome tool. Press and hold the buttons on the bottom of the screen some phones use the back button and some the home button don't get discouraged try different buttons one of them work. Definitely the developer did an awesome job.

S70%
by S####:

Complants about being to download are not correct on samsung devices you need to hold your back button ... Just a matter of reading directions for your phone... Not app my problem is lite verson will not let you save waypoints.

Z70%
by Z####:

The app says "press the overflow button in the menu bar". There is no such thing. The developer does not understand the Samsung Tab.

Z70%
by Z####:

Update on the lite version of this app. Been using for over a year in the coastal waters of Florida. Still have had no issues. I have it on my phone as well as 2 different brands of tablet using a GPS receiver dongle when offshore. The Samsung users are having issues primarily due to not understanding their own hardware. Sorry guys, but it is what it is. Trying out the full version next to see how it fares. This one is a winner for me and i have recommended it multiple times to others and will continue to

Z70%
by Z####:

My phone doesn't have an overflow option to download charts, so this app is worthless until the authors fix the app. It's a shame, too, because I think it would be a good tool for boating.

Useless on Samsung Galaxy S5 without the menu button, common guys, check your complains and fix your app!

I've been using this app in Florida waters for a year plus and it works good. I'm making a trip to Norfolk and I can't access any of the charts for Georgia north even though I downloaded them when a got the app. The app will not let me re-download the charts. Can anyone help?

Z70%

Settings>accessibility>dexterity and interaction>assistant menu>switch "on" at top>enable one tap. Open app, click on menu box, scroll to screen 2, click "more options". Enjoy everyone!!

Loved the app till I got new Samsung phone without menu button, now can't load charts.

My new phone doesn't have a menu button... action overflow.... please fix.... Cannot import files...

First, a key caveat. This app works with older Android OS versions which have the menu button functionality. That wasn't a problem for me when I tested it, so it didn't impact my score. However, if you don't have the menu button on your Android OS, this will be challenging. Note: That dependency doesn't exist for the full version, only for the Lite version. This app pulls in the high quality NOAA maps, and allows to set destinations and plot the current GPS position on that map. The NOAA maps are free. There is a learning curve, and this app would be improved with a five minute tutorial of how to do these things, but overall it's pretty awesome, even for a free app.

I have both on my Nexus 7. Great app. Trying it now on my LG G4 phablet. Holding back one star for pinch and zoom. Seeing a lot of people who don't know to press and hold device bottom right button to access the import menu

Retrying app and found its hughly improved... still testing but am really starting to like it's accuracy. Thanks.

FIX for installing maps on devices (e.g. recent Samsung) with no hardware Menu button, where long-press on lower-left "Recent apps" button does not produce the Marine Navigator menu: Go to Settings ==> One-handed operation ==> Side key panel ==> Manage keys. Drag one of the three default SHOWN ON PANEL buttons down to the AVAILABLE list, and drag "More options" up to SHOWN ON PANEL. Then activate "Side key panel" in the Notification panel, drag the Side key panel from the left (or right) side of the screen, and click the three vertical dots. Voila! You now have a hardware Menu button (a.k.a. "More options")! This is a great app for simple GPS tracking of your position on high-quality charts.

There is no way to import any charts. I guess Ronald wants you to purchase the paid version. No thank you. I will use someone else's app whick works.

Z70%
by Z####:

USA or NZ seriously. I would try again and buy the full version if it shown any chance of working. Til then I'll give it a swerve.

T70%

Great app but sometimes when I try to use it, it disables my gps. Anyway you can fix this. I turn my gps on then open app and see later my gps is off.

I have a Samsung Note 4 and since there's no menu button this app is useless. Too bad, actually, because it looks like it'd be a good one. Let me know when it's reconfigured and I'll try it again.

L70%
by L####:

Works fine with my Galaxy S5 being I'm smart enough to know how to use the menu.

Z70%
by Z####:

No menu button useless app

J70%
by J####:

All it shows is little cartoon boats after hours of importing maps. What a waist of cpu cycles.

T70%
by T####:

Works very well with downloaded SHN charts, and developer response is instant! For the people like me using a s5 reporting it didn't work, you just have to long press the recents button to use it as a menu button.

Z70%
by Z####:

How do I find charts for the mediterranean specifically Malta?

T70%
by T####:

We used this along side charts from Friday Harbor to Seattle. This is an awesome stand in for a chart plotter. I've already bought the full version. My only wish is that it had currents.

Z70%
by Z####:

So where exactly is the overflow button or even the navigation bar? Not to speak of the help button or the menu bar. Samsung tab 4

Z70%
by Z####:

Why make an app that doesn't work or allow download from a Samsung? Just ridiculous. Design it better, jeez

I70%
by I####:

Great app. Just need to add connect to maps.
