About ioda
ioda should be read "IO-DA", IO for Input/Output and DA for Data Analysis. It is a scientific application that permits to read files at various formats as FITS used in astronomy, DICOM in medical, AIDA, ROOT and HepRep used in high energy physics (HEP), dot to draw graphs, JPG and PNG to store images and also VRML and Inventor files since 1.12 version.
For AIDA files, the histograms 1D, 2D, profiles 1D, 2D can be plotted. For ROOT files, ioda can plot TH[1,2][D,F] objects along than TProfile ones. For FITS files, the "HDUs" can be listed and their keys can be seen. If the HDU is an IMAGE_HDU type, ioda attempts to visualize it as an image (which is one of the primary goal of the FITS format : store astronomical pictures). If the HDU is a BINARY_TBL, ioda shows a description of the columns (name, type) and proposes to histogram and plot a choosen column. For DICOM, the first frame is shown by default but an animation on frames is possible. For JPG and PNG files, the image is visualized. Files at the FOG CEA/Saclay format permit to visualize LHC/ATLAS sub detectors.
From 1.4, you can fit 1D histograms with MINUIT.

Read HepRep zip files. Improve the logic of "View All" : on a model thin in z, the camera were too close, now it is better. Have a "W/B" button in the left camera panel to change background color (White or Black). Have also a clear scene button. Viewing fits files on an android is simple and highly configurable at the same time. Love this app, and all science buffs should install this, an ftp client, and head over to nasa ' s ftp servers.

Ui leaves a lot to be desired.. But that could be worked around if it worked at all with fits data files

Tried to open a simple FITS format image, app said 'failed' with no explanation why. UI inconsistent with Android UI standards (and ugly).

Nice idea, but needs work. Very buggy and non-intuitive UI. Also, annoying that it offers to open EVERY kind of link (calendar, contacts, really?)

See Fast Image Viewer FIV for a better app to open FITS image files. IODA is impossible to use because there is only a brief summary of what it's supposed to do (apparently everything), no instructions, poor examples and a rudimentary interface. I wanted to plot a simple FITS file, but couldn't even find how to use the file browser. I did manage to FTP (large) FITS files from the author's site, but couldn't plot them. If the author wants people to use this application, he needs to spend a little time on the (boring) job of writing instructions, improving the interface and testing it on a colleague.
