About Wi-Fi Matic - Auto WiFi On Off

Important: this app is not designed to reveal Wi-Fi passwords, neither to help you to set up your phone to connect to a Wi-Fi for the first time. Please, read carefully the description and if it is not what you are looking for, do not download it.

If you are willing to help me translate the app to another language please send me an e-mail!

Wi-Fi Matic is an Android app that activates and deactivates Wi-Fi of your device automatically depending on your location, helping you to save battery and consumption of data through your operator network.

It detects automatically the location of known Wi-Fi networks (home, office, gym etc.), turns on Wi-Fi when you arrive a place where there is Wi-Fi, and turns it off when you leave that place.

After some training (*), the app should learn all your commonly used Wi-Fi access points, allow your device to use Wi-Fi in the usual places and keep Wi-Fi off where it is not needed.

How does it work?

It DOES NOT USE GPS nor Android network location services, as it uses your operator network cell identifiers (cell tower identifiers) as the relative location where you are, and where your Wi-Fi networks are. It is designed to minimize usage of resources and battery.

Wi-Fi Matic detects and learns automatically locations where you are connected to a Wi-Fi, not needing much configuration. It also allows you to manage manually your Wi-Fi when needed not interfering with you or with your device data connections.

How is it used?

1.- Run the app and click on "Enable Wi-Fi Matic".
2.- If you want to connect to a Wi-Fi for the first time, do it as usual in the Android Wireless networks settings menu. If you want to connect to a Wi-Fi you have already connected to before, just turn on Wi-Fi manually and let Android establish connection.
3.- And that's all: Wi-Fi Matic will learn your Wi-Fi location when you get connected. Whenever you leave that place, Wi-Fi will be automatically turned off and whenever you get back, Wi-Fi will be automatically turned on (*)

(*) Depending on your mobile carrier network configuration and your access point signal strength, Wi-Fi Matic might need some time to precisely learn all needed cell tower identifiers and work accurately. Check Frequently Asked Questions.

This app deactivates Wi-Fi at night & turns it back on in the morning. It deactivates Wi-Fi when I drive away from my house and reactivates it when I come back into range. This app is amazing, I use it on my Samsung Galaxy S5 Marshmallow, thank you very much for a wonderful app, I highly recommend it.

B70%
by B####:

Really good idea and functionality, BUT... mine is always switching on my wifi when I don't want it to, even when I tell it to forget locations. No reply from support email address so switching to alternative app. Such a shame.

D70%
by D####:

One less thing to worry about, forever. No ads, no notifications. It just does what it should, efficiently. I install this app on every new device I get. Thanks Wi-fi matic devs.

I was broke and lost my cell service. So I downloaded a voip app and used WiFi for calling. When out around town I'd connect to various hotspots and make calls. This app kept up with all the WiFi's for me and connected. Some I'd have to open a browser, etc. Yet it saved me a lot of hassles. Now I have cell again and I use it to connect to different WiFi's so I can save on my mobile data. Never a problem. Ran it on three devices including a tablet.

by D####:

been trying it for about a week now. its been helping my battery life. rather than draining down to ~65% during the day its up in the ~80% range

D70%
by D####:

Long story short, I am very sad to say that with my Droid Turbo 1 on Lollipop dying and now I am on the DT2 with a fresh, clean install of Marshmallow, every other app is fine, but this one doesn't work. Every single phone and app setting is properly tweaked. It will NOT turn on and off based on cell phone tower triangulation. This app has not been updated since Jan. 2016 and it is June 2016. The technology is not playing nice. If this continues I must abandon the app and use another. Please fix guys!!!

I had searched and tried many, many apps to do one thing. Turn on Wi-Fi at a location. This does it. It does it easily. This app was the easiest to set up. The easiest to run and virtually ignore afterwards. A true set and forget app that does what it says it should.

H70%
by H####:

Used to work brilliantly but now on my S7 it rarely turns on Wifi when it's meant to. And often turns it off when I'm connected to wifi. Really frustrating. It may be something to do with the S7. I don't know.

D70%
by D####:

This app is just awesome! It does exactly what I was hoping it'd do. You can easily add WiFis to the list and it'll remember the location of it and be able to do specific things like turning your WiFi off or on and such things. Great app with low battery usage as well as ram which should make things more secure.

D70%
by D####:

The best app I found. Open source and dead simple to use. But takes a bit too much of ram (60-70MB) IMHO. OPO/CM13

T70%
by T####:

It had just one job to do.Should have switched off wifi when i moved out of designated location and switched data back on. Did not do that!

D70%
by D####:

It doesn't work like it used to prior to the marshmallow update, wifi doesn't automatically turn off anymore... Samsung Galaxy s6 edge

D70%
by D####:

It used to work great, but it stopped working on both my phones at the same time so I assume the last update broke the app.

L70%
by L####:

#1..DOES NOT TURN WIFI SCANNING ON AND OFF AS STATED WITH GALAXY S5...wifi on and off as stated its on all the time and #2...when I check the block to turn off the data when I'm in a wifi situation to save on my data charges it does not affect data one way or the other..DATA STAYS ON !

D70%
by D####:

It works quietly in the background exactly as advertised, and unlike most apps that purport to save battery, it really does do so when you're on the move (which is when battery-saving is most crucial).

D70%
by D####:

Very good. But lately Wi-Fi seems to be turning on occasionally while in airplane mode. This did not happen before. Is this something in the application, or perhaps a change in Android? Once this is fixed: Five stars!

J70%
by J####:

At the place where out of mobile signal, the app keep turn on 3G data and off Wifi EVEN there have strong Wifi signal! The result is no data connection but the 3G carry on draw battery. Suggest to add an option to turn on Wifi when out of range of mobile network

D70%
by D####:

It turns off my wifi when I'm out of the house but doesn't turn back in when I return to my house. So I have ended up using way more data this month. Galaxy s6 edge. Uninstalling

D70%
by D####:

Does not see cell towers after marshmallow update on S7. Other apps ask for cell info permission. This one does not.

H70%
by H####:

Used to work on my Motorola Droid, but now on my Galaxy S7 it doesn't turn off wifi after I'm disconnected from known wifi sources and it doesn't turn off mobile data when I'm connected to known wifi sources.

D70%
by D####:

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Kind of frustrating because that's the point of the app

K70%
by K####:

Fails to switch wifi back on when i return to my home wifi, even though it shows wifi is on in the settings

Q70%
by Q####:

Great App.... However it Now needs updating for Mashmallow as it needs permission to turn wifi on and off. Without the needed permission you constantly have to permit it manually and this defeats the whole aim of the app.

D70%
by D####:

Would you guys be able to add a feature that let's you nickname the cell towers so you know which tower is giving you the best signal when disabling others?

N70%
by N####:

My Schedule to deactivate Wi-Fi doesn't work. I wanted to disable my Wi-Fi during my schedule even if i am in my remembered location. Also disconnection time out to disable Wi-Fi after minutes selected doesn't work if you are in your location and Wi-Fi is not connected due to out of range to Wi-Fi.

Z70%
by Z####:

Been using this app for a few weeks now and have absolutely no complaints. The wifi turns on when I get to a location and turns off when I leave. That's all I asked for and it delivers. Was using Tasker for this before which worked ok, but was erratic. Not to mention a pain to setup. If you want something that's easy and works well, this is it.

T70%
by T####:

On my Galaxy S7 it seems to work as described i used it on my S5 and never had a problem however i noticed that when i bought my new S7 i did the transfer using Samsung direct transfer and noticed that the app did not work correctly so i uninstalled and found the latest version on the play store and now it seems to work. i can only give it 4 stars because i have not had it on the new phone that long and it will need time to aquire my networks that i use. i have high hopes that it will work like the old one. i will update my review if i run into any issues or if i find that it works like the older version and bump it up to a *5* thank for the app

E70%

Say what? And now it shows a message for out if range and deactivating, but did not turn off WiFi. What changed. Used to be rock solid.

N70%
by N####:

Great and simple design, would love an option that only turns the WiFi on near my known WiFi connections and not every WiFi I encounter.

C70%
by C####:

It would have been nice if the option to schedule allowed to select particular days.

N70%
by N####:

I loved this app but it hadn't been updated and so long it didn't work anymore. Thanks for the update I'll see how it works on Android 6.0. If it's like it use to be I'll give 5 stars.

D70%
by D####:

On samsung s7, os 6.0.1 working only when notifications is activated. Ugly all time see notifications.

B70%

For those reporting errors using an S6 the app. needs to be manually started on boot/reboot. Once started it works as advertised. If you experience any trouble please go to Settings, Application, Running and check that the app is indeed running. Many battery saving apps will close it. Make sure it is Ignored. I am running Android 5.0.2 rooted. An excellent time saver.

Doesn't turn WiFi on or off anymore. Worked well on my S4, no joy on the S6.

N70%

Has worked perfectly on all handsets up until I got an S7, rarely works and I have to switch WiFi on manually 90% of the time, hopefully the devs will address this and release an update.
